Rainbow outside SVPS around evening time!

It was really raining cats and dogs the whole day at SVPS! Yup, it was Wednesday afternoon (just yesterday) and I would love to be at home, comfortably tucked inside my comforter and bed, and off I would go, to Slumberland, and only to be awakened the next morning by "Rocky" as my alarm at 5.30am.

Alas, it was not the case. I was still in school attending a Maths workshop, while the rest of you would be happily at home, doing perhaps something you would really enjoy doing. Initially I nearly dismissed the workshop as something which would be redundant, as I had gone through a module on that in NIE.

Yet, I could be so wrong. Such is the nature of Man, familiarity breeds contempt. Likewise, complacency gives no room for learning... On the contrary, humility gives birth to learning...

I was reminded, of the things that my secondary school principal used to lament ceaselessly: "Stay focused, be humble, and be ready to learn." How true these words would turn out to be. The more complacent a person gets, the less he will learn. So, I had a gentle reminder just then during the workshop that we need to always stay focus, be humble and be ready to learn, no matter how we may think that we have already learnt this previously!

The rest of the evening was spent dealing with class administrative matters... Checking consent forms, edusave forms and marking Maths assignments...

Finally, it was time to go home and when I was about to drive off from school and on my way to send a friend home, I saw a huge band of rainbow before my very eyes!

It would be the most vivid band of rainbow I have encountered! It would be one of the rainbows with the longest bridge across the dark sky that evening after 6.30pm! Surprisingly, it was still very bright for an evening around 7pm!

Let the pictures do the talking!

God - Your Promise

A long band of rainbow...

Spotted outside SVPS

Taken from the car...

These pictures were taken, by a friend whom I was sending home that evening... Fret not, my hands were gripping the wheel, and the eyes fixed on the traffic around me.

Rainbow always mean something special to people, to Christians, but it meant ever more so to me that evening...

Rainbow - You come after a storm just to reward those who have braved the storm and persevered to see your beauty.

Perhaps, all that we have to do when we go through tough times in our lives would not be focusing on the problems, but on the beauty and reward that comes after the challenges (storm)...

Think about it dear 5.7...

Clarification: P5 Camp T shirts

Hi 5.7,

I've checked with Mr Yap and I am very pleased to announce to you that pupils who will be attending the P5 Adventure Camp and has used the Edusave account to pay for the camp, NEED NOT pay $5 for the T shirt at all. The cost is inclusive (meaning included).

However, pupils who WILL NOT BE ATTENDING the Adventure Camp will have to bring $5 to pay for the T shirt, as we will still need the T-shirt for NE shows.

T-shirt sizes will be in according to your PE T shirt sizes. HOWEVER, please buy at least 1 to 2 sizes bigger as a lot of you will be going through puberty and growing up faster than you think you can!

I will be sending a class list down tomorrow during your Health Education lesson. Please remember to bring the following if you have not done so:
  1. P5 Adventure Camp Green forms
  2. P5 Adventure Camp Edusave forms
  3. P5 Adventure Camp fees (for those without Edusave)
  4. Innochef course fees - S5
  5. T-shirt size (1 to 2 sizes bigger)
Cheers! See you all tomorrow! Pupils who have read this blog post, please remind your friends over the phone!

IMPORTANT!!! P5 Adventure Camp forms.

5.7,

To date, about 8 of you all have not handed in the green consent forms for your P5 Adventure Camp, if I do not have them by Monday, I will take it that you are not interested, and you will not be going to the Adventure Camp.

Also, 6 of you have not handed in your Edusave forms (white forms) for the camp as well. Please get them ready for my collection by Monday, 23 Feb 2009.

Pupils who would visit this blog often, but your friends are rarely viewing, please call them and let them know about this.

This is very important! Thank you!

A very long course...

It has been a few days away from school, from my classes, and most of all, my beloved form class 5.7... What has Mr Yeoh been up to recently?

He has been attending classes starting from 8 am to 10pm nearly everyday! He has to wake up at 5.45 am everyday and reach Labrador Adventure Camp by 7 am everyday! He is away for these few days to attain a license to be a high rope course element instructor!

Everyday, Mr Yeoh will have to practice setting up stations and high rope obstacle courses under the hot sun. He has to attend classes on safety and many activities... He has to work hard with the rest of the participants until 10pm everyday before he gets to go home to bath and wash away a whole day's worth of sweat, dirt, pain and fatigue...

What about 5.7? What has the rest of the classes been doing? Are they behaving well or are they making so much noise, waiting for Mr Yeoh to be disappointed and has to punish them for inappropriate behaviour?

I hope my class will be good pupils for teachers, who are pleasant students to teach, responsible and mature in their actions, thoughts and attitude.

I'll be back real soon!

Just a thought...

Hi, I do not know about the rest, but recently I have been thinking...

What are we doing with every second while we are living on Earth?

What are we using our time for?

Some get to live for a long while - over a century... but there are also many who may never live to see another day.

Babies can be born one second, and pass away in the very next, due to some health problems.

People can be walking up and down the street one fine morning; we may even greet our neighbours one fine morning, and in the very next moment, we see news of them passing away in freak accidents...

Life is precious... Life is vulnerable... We ought to be thankful that we are still alive at this very moment, and even more thankful that we will continue to be alive the next day, the next week and the year next, and onwards.

What am I saying?

1. Be thankful for being alive, others are not as blessed as we are.
2. Use our time on meaningful things wisely... Life is more than eat, drink, and make merry.

I feel that many of us are discontented with what we have in life. We always look to what we do not have, but have we forgotten that we have so much more as compared to what we do not have...

Apart from that, people are also living in misery, by remembering the hurts and disappointments their friends, family or even teachers may have caused them to have. If we have first chosen to forgive that person, we will not be so miserable.

When we live in misery, we are living in a prison ourselves by bearing grudges. Forgive, and be forgiven.

Just a food for thought for 5.7s today? Are there things in our lives that we have taken for granted? Let's be thankful, and forgiving shall we? Feel free to comment by clicking on the "comments" tab.

Designs for the wall outside 5.7/3.7 classroom

Dear 5.7,

Hello! Hope you all have not forgotten that we are to come up with a picture to represent ourselves to put outside the class? It is almost 2 weeks! Have you all started on it?

So far I have only seen 2 pieces from some of the classmates... The rest?

I look forward to see them when I am back alright? Some good artists like Celeste, I am drooling to look at your beautiful drawings!

By the way, Happy Friendship and Happy Valentine's!

Cheers,
Mr Yeoh

Reminder for Total Defence Day

Dear 5.7!

This Friday will be the Total Defence Day. The school will be practicing food rationing as an exercise for pupils and teachers to experience what it would be like in cases of emergencies such as wars and food shortages.

Therefore, please have a good breakfast and do not pack your own food to school. Biscuits will be provided during this period of time to simulate (acting it out as if it is a real scenario) situations of emergencies.

Let us truly experience and go through this exercise with self discipline and alertness. This is a way of showing fighting spirit together with the nation in times of emergency.

Let us fight together and show that 5.7 is not a bunch of softies and weaklings. Let us have a really awesome TOTAL DEFENCE DAY!

Health Education: Metamorphosis (Puberty)

Hi 5.7!

Do you all still remember the HE lesson we have gone through 2 weeks back? I believe some of you have lots of questions and are curious about puberty, and growing up.

Therefore, I am providing you this web site for you to read up more and find out more about growing up. Please do not be shy, but be curious to learn more. It is better that you learn the right things than to go away with all the wrong information and understanding.

So feel free to go to this url:
http://kidshealth.org/kid/grow/

Once you have gone through the website, if you have any questions to ask, you may post them by using the 'comments' function and I will try my very best to answer as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Welcome!!!

Hello ladies and gentlemen of 5.7!!!

I've told you all that I would set up a blog for us to communicate to one another. I really miss out good times interacting, communicating and getting to know all of you.

So, here, the blog is set up for us to interact. However, allow me to share with you 3 main things:

1. Why we have set up this class blog.
- Serves as a channel for us to communicate to one another as a class.
- Serves as a channel for teachers to announce important things to you as well.

2. What we blog about.
We will blog responsibly. We will not spam, curse or insult anyone in our class blog. We will actually share our comments and different knowledge about different subjects.

3. Rules in this blog.
- Speak positive words, not vulgarities and negative comments
- No obscene and crude materials.

I look forward to seeing most of you online and actively commenting and sharing about each others' lives on this blog. Cheers!
