Positive Attitude & Time Management

What does it take for one to be one of the top scorers in PSLE or to do well?

It begins with positive attitude towards learning whereby one is motivated and responsible to learn more.

The 2nd most important element would be TIME MANAGEMENT. Does it mean we study like crazy 5 hours a day? No! See what this top scorer has to say.

Congratulations to SV P6es of 2009.

Congratulations P6s! They did it again this year! The P6 has done the school proud with a few of the top PSLE pupils coming from SVPS.

Read more about them on:

Meanwhile, I hope all of you have started making full use of the holidays to work on your weaker topics in P5 and be prepared for P6.

Can we all quit complaining about how bored we are during this school holiday, and really start on something useful for yourself?

Results come by the right attitude coupled with a fair amount of effort put in.

If you have time to complain about being bored, why not do something and make a difference to your P6 in 2010?

Do it! All the best!

This Is It!

Sounded familiar? MJ's last piece of work for us?

Well, not quite for me in this post today...

Today marked the last day I would have spent with the class... How do I exactly feel?

I have a sense of mixed feelings...

I went back on a journey down the memory lane, recounting all the encounters, and events we had gone through together...

There were moments of tears, moments of joy... Moments of laughters, and moments of fits... There were encouraging moments as well as heartbreaking moments...

Some significant events we have gone through together...

1. The first time I had watched an NE Show under a thunderstorm.

I could vividly recall how hard my heart was beating that day when it was raining cats and dogs suddenly during the finale of the show... The fireworks were up, but the rain came down hard on us... I was so worried for each of you... The fear of you being struck by lightning, catching a cold from all the wet uniforms and harsh weather...

We stayed together, we braved the storm together... That was the 1st time I had ever gotten so panicky and worried for any of my pupils...

2. The first time I got so upset that I did not speak to a class for days...

That was also a first for me that I was so upset and disappointed with the class... Umpteen times of reminders, chances and more given, but yet the unnecessary talking and playing continued... That made me blew my top off... I was so heartbroken and discouraged that day to think that my pupils were making a choice to just talk than to listen, to not learn and just to have that short temporal moments of fun.

3. The first class that respected me more than anyone they would know...

You need not say it, yet I know you have shown me that silent respect from within... Perhaps the reason why you all have respected me would be because I am the form teacher? No matter, I know that when I try to talk sense to you, some really bothered to listen and make changes in their attitude and character... Thank you so much for that.

4. The first class where I had to give 3 days per week to give remedials and supplementary classes.

Honestly, this is really quite the first, and it can be very tiring for both teacher and pupils... Yet some of you all really showed me that enthusiasm, fighting spirit and positivity to learn... Henceforth, the results showed it all - Major improvements for many.

5. My first class ever to show me 32 improvements out of 37.

That is an amazing achievement made by all of you. I am proud of you for doing so. You have really worked so hard, and I am sorry for some who have made all the effort, but yet have not been able to pass in their overall results...

Do not be discouraged, but rather, learn from the past experience, and make sure that you treasure every moment of learning and make the fullest out of it... Improvements and success comes through the right set of attitude towards learning...

Indeed, it has been a long year, and yet it seemed to pass by so quickly, perhaps in the midst of all our activities and busyness, we could not stop by slowly to appreciate each other long enough...

So...

THIS IS IT.

The time has come for us to part... I hope in this year, you have not just learnt Maths concepts from me, but rather the skills and experience you will need to face the challenges lying ahead of you in your own life. I was not here in 5.7 to be popular and well liked by children.

I know some of you hated me to the core, for being so strict, fierce, heartless and stern. I hope and just pray that you will one day come to realise why I have done certain things in that way. My heart is clear conscience and the motive has always been to nurture and bring out the best from all in all from each of you... You can choose to hate me if you want to, but fear not, it's the last day you will ever see me as your form teacher already.

From here on, you are on your own... I wish you all the best, and great success in everything that you put your best effort in...

It's farewell now... Hasta la vista my dear 5.7s...

The joys of yesterdays and tomorrows,
Have all passed and left hollow...
If time is there to borrow,
Perhaps there won't be sorrow...

Yet now, time has passed like a piercing arrow,
So gone are the feelings of sweet mellow,
And now parting is of sweet sorrow,
which left many of us to wallow...

I pray each of you go forth with halos,
Never turning back or staying low,
but set examples to follow,
To soar high into greater tomorrows...

I love you 5.7. Farewell. Thanks for all the sweet memories you have given to me. I'm proud of you. Thanks for bearing with me and going through 2009 with me.

Myth Busters!

Gosh...

Before the misunderstandings worsen, I would like to clarify certain 'myths', 'rumours' or 'gossips' about Mr Ben Ang and me.

I understand from some that there have been talks saying that Mr Ben Ang is my brother and I am his elder brother.

Well we are 'brothers', but we have no blood relationship at all!

We are 'brothers' because we know each other very well, and we are god-brothers. I am the elder one, and he is the youngest. We are very alike in terms of personality and the things we have passion for. We have the same education philosophy and style, and most of all, we hit it off well as buddies.

Hence, Mr Ben Ang is like a younger brother to me, although he is not my real brother.

Hope this clarifies, so stop going around giving people the false information!

Friendships, Betrayals, Hurts and Slanders...

Day in day out, as I read the blogs of my friends and pupils... I would read about tags with words of malice, gall and hatred... I would read about accusations, slanders and gossips about people they do not agree much with...

I would often read about how much they hate this person, what 'evil' things this person would have done, and how they cannot accept the way this person is...

At the end of it, friendships are threatened... Friends around them were 'coerced' or forced to take sides with them. IF their friends refuse to, they face the same cold treatment, or worse, isolation from the rest of the clique.

Do we all know that this is a form of bullying? It is easy to feel alright when you are in the bigger group, when everyone sides with you... However, have you ever spare a thought for the person who is the victim and subject of isolation here?

What these people are doing are no different from a gangster extorting money or threatening to harm a person physically... They are actually far worst than gangsters... They are causing injuries and wounds that no naked eye can see... The wounds are found in the hearts and souls of the victims... These kind of wounds are far more difficult to heal than normal cuts, and bruises...

They felt betrayed, they felt hurt by people they thought were trusted friends...

Please... Can we create a world and environment where everyone is friends with each other? What makes we think that we are superior than the person to criticise or to judge that person whether he or she is good, or bad?

Who are we?

Are we judges? Are we perfect? Are we any better than the person we would dislike?

Through out my life, I have learnt to realise that no man in this world is perfect. No one. No one is without blame or flaws in his or her character. That is why we ought to respect and accept the person for who he or she is, if we would like to be treated likewise.

Do unto others what we want others to do unto us...

We may not be carrying any weapons to hurt the person, but in actual fact, our words are like poisonous double-edged daggers... Each time we speak badly of a person, we are stabbing these poisonous daggers in the backs of our friends...

That is really evil...

So, please... Put a stop to all these childish acts. We are not any better than anyone here... So can we stop judging? Learn to accept the person for who he/she is. If you can't, then just shut up and stop spreading rumours, speak badly of that person on blogs, online or even insulting the person on Facebook. These are acts of cowards, bullies and childish immature people...

GROW UP.

So people with the names listed below, I hope you all learn to put aside all your differences and start to learn to respect each other. It has been made known to me that classmates are calling each other names and insulting each other... Some are telling friends around not to befriend the person and condemn the person to be isolated and be alone... I will take actions if you refuse to change. I am not listing the names down to find fault at anyone, but just to remind these pupils to really put a stop to the conflicts and differences.

I hope this chance I am giving to you to change for the better is not wasted. Thanks.

1. Nur Irfan
2. Saifullah
3. Rashid
4. Darwiis
5. Asyraf
6. Batrisyia
7. Zafirah
8. Saikumar

I am telling you all these and sharing with you all on friendship because I think this class has a serious problem... A lot of us think that we are better than the person we hate, and that gives us the right to call people names, to hurt people with words.

I want to tell you, we are all imperfect human beings. All of us are equal, and none of us here are better than the other. We better learn to treat each other with respect...

Congratulations!

It is my pleasure to announce to the whole class that after going through our Maths SA 2 papers, I have found out that we have a total of 32 pupils who have shown improvements in their Mathematics paper.

Our top 3 improvements would come from:

1. Sandrea Chua (improved by 25 marks)

2. Asyraf (improved by 24 marks)

3. Saikumar (improved by 20 marks)

Honestly I am so proud of you pupils... I think the paper was a fair one, just that it is a pity that a lot of you have thrown your marks away to careless mistakes...

Nonetheless, with such great improvements made by most of you, there will be a class party soon.

Stay tuned in future for more details.

Congratulations class. However, do not be contented with just improvements. You ought to work hard and always strive for better results. Those who have failed, but are closer to passing, please do start working hard and pay extra attention next year the moment 2010 begins.

Those who have done well, continue to be careful and diligent to have that right attitude to learn!

All the best!

Supplementary class on 4 Nov 2009, Wednesday

Dear pupils and parents of 5.7,

In case that we do not have sufficient time to thoroughly go through and check our Maths SA 2 papers, I am organising a supplementary class for everyone tomorrow on Wednesday 4 Nov 2009.

I apologise for not issuing consent forms as the printing machine broke down just before the session ended for them today. Hence I am posting this blog post online to prove of its authencity.

Details are as follow:
Date: 4 Nov, Wednesday
Time: 1.30pm - 3pm
Waiting Point: Outside Artz Hub
Classroom: To be confirmed

Pupils, if your parents are suspicious of you, do ask them to go on the blog themselves to look at this post. Else, they may call the general office to look for me and I will explain to them.

There may be a need for us to have it even on Thursday, if necessary. I will let you all know again after tomorrow's supplementary.

Hopefully the printing machine is not faulty by tomorrow and I can print out consent forms for you.

Many thanks.

Mr Ken Yeoh

Important advice!

Hello dearest 5.7s!

Maths Paper will be the last paper for 35 of you!!! Hooray!

Hope all of you have made the full use of your time to really revise, practice and study hard.

Anyway, here are some important reminders to prepare yourself for tomorrow's paper.

1. Sleep early tonight! (8 hours of sleep is important)

2. Bring your calculator and geometry set (set squares, ruler, protractor)

3. Always read the questions carefully. Use R.U.N!

4. Take note of the units they want the final answers to be in.

5. Always show your workings and number statements! They are awarded method marks even if your answers may be wrong.

6. Go back to the difficult questions you may have skipped and do your best for them. JUST DON'T LEAVE ANY BLANKS.

7. Don't cancel away your workings unnecessarily if you are not sure if they are right or wrong. Leave them there.

8. Make sure when you draw model diagrams, you label your model diagrams if you have no number statements.

9. Try to recall the various questions you have encountered before in your revision papers.

10. Trust yourselves. Have confidence in yourselves.

BE EXAM SMART!

Meanwhile, please take good care of yourselves! All the best!
